It’s a good idea to start preparing your skin at least twelve weeks ahead to ensure your skin looks and feels amazing on your big day, here are some basic tips to healthy skin;

  1. Cleanse and moisturize twice daily to keep your skin looking softer and smoother. Be careful how you handle your face as the skin is very sensitive. Always wash your hands thoroughly before allowing contact with your face. Use gentle soaps and moisturizers to leave your skin well looked after and soft.
  2. Avoid sleeping in makeup. It’s a basic rule of keep your skin well to ensure your face is clean and fresh before going to bed; gently remove any makeup with cotton wool and cleanser or better still wash with soap and pat dry gently. Thereafter, allow a bit of face cream to leave the skin soft and glowing in the morning.
  3. Avoid popping pimples as it may cause black spots- this can be done by cutting back on the consumption of oils foods, seeds and nuts. Instead have a lot of fruits and vegetables as the main staple of your diet.
  4. Stay hydrated, drink lots of water at least 8 glasses of water a day – the skin is made up of cells and these cells are made up of water. They are therefore really able to function properly when well fueled. If the skin is not well hydrated, it tends to become dry, tight which makes the skin more prone to wrinkling. Enough water is therefore required to help all organs including the skin to function effectively.
  5. Eat clean, avoid oily foods to prevent breakouts. For an extra glow, eat foods that are rich in antioxidants such as; berries, carrots, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables…etc, in addition to foods packed with healthy fatty acids, like fish.
  6. Don’t try any new skin products or regimes/treatments 6 weeks prior to your big day. This is because, a new regime can cause a negative reaction to your skin and may cause major problems that cannot be solved in the short term.
  7. Facial waxing should be done at least three days prior to your wedding, and as early as a week before if you’ve never had it done before, or you have very sensitive.
  8. Facials should be done no later than two weeks before the big day to prevent reactions you may have to any chemicals.
  9. Avoid excessive drinking and smoking as these have adverse effects on the skin. This is because alcohol causes dehydration and also decreases the body’s vitamin A which is a powerful antioxidant; a lack of which makes it harder for the skin to fight free radicals which can cause damage to the lipid layer of the skin. Cigarette on the other hand contains monoxide which tends to displace the oxygen in the skin slowing down blood flow across the cells and organs. It also depletes nutrients including Vitamin C which help to protect and repair skin damage.
  10. Pause to de-stress; stress is terrible for your skin, it can rob you of your radiance and make you look dull and tired. Taking a break to forget about wedding-planning worries and de-stress will not only give your spirit a boost, but also restore your skin’s vibrancy.
